You can either learn these skills through online courses, YouTube, books or through coding bootcamps.
What is a coding bootcamp?
Think of it like a specialized university that's focused on helping you become a web developer/software engineer in a few months.
Are coding bootcamps worth it?
In short, some bootcamps GUARANTEE you a job (or you get your tuition back) and I love this aspect of it.
A lot of us don't need to learn through a coding bootcamp, but if you like structure, accountability, are financially able to invest and you've done your research, then go for it.
Some general notes:
- Completing a bootcamp won’t qualify you for an executive position in Google, but it will give you enough experience to qualify for an entry-level tech job with a competitive starting salary (at the minimum).
- Most bootcamps give you a mentor who will be there to give you clarity and answers to speed up your learning curve and make you more accountable for your progress.
- You’ll have classmates who will be there with you as you go through this journey.
- Most bootcamps have a vast network of hiring partners so you’ll be one step ahead in the job-hunting game.
- What matters is if you put in the time and effort needed. Even the best bootcamps aren’t going to magically transform you into a developer if you don’t put in the hours and hard work.

I studied a few courses through Thinkful and it’s an amazing school according in my experience.
Thinkful was founded in 2012 with the aim of not getting you a degree but getting you a good job – or you get your money back.
Thinkful’s Full Stack Flex teaches full stack development, which you can take on a part-time basis without quitting your job.
